Pirates of the Caribbean: They could kill Jack Sparrow offstage

It takes living on a rock not to know that Johnny Depp has fallen from the grace of the great Holyywood studios. It’s all because lawsuits between him and Amber Heard have been the order of the day for a while. One of the consequences of them is that the actor lost the role he played in Fantastic Animals and Where to Find Them – 73% and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald – 48%. In a short time we already knew who is going to replace him: Mads Mikkelsen. This was good news for some and bittersweet for others. Mikkelsen is a great actor. No one can deny it. Several fans of the franchise appreciated his inclusion in this series, but not that he was the replacement for the other actor.

There’s little doubt that we’re not going to see it in a high-budget movie anytime soon. For the same reason, a rumor has just emerged that makes all the sense in the world and that it is hard to think that it is mere talk. We Got This Covered (yes, we know what they are thinking) has reported that their sources have told them that Disney has decided to kill Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, but only half. In the movies it is going to say that it is a rumor to leave open the possibility that the actor can make a triumphant return. Here is what they said:

According to our information, the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie is going to establish that Jack Sparrow is dead. However, it has been said that various characters are going to argue that there are rumors that he faked his own death in order to escape the last bounty they have placed on his head, thus leaving the door slightly open so that he can return later. Of course, fans are going to reject anything under the pretext that Depp is not part of the film, but this is the most the studio is willing to compromise on that front.

It would make a lot of sense for them to do that, but it seems more likely that they will simply ignore his existence and that world will go on without him. There’s always the reliable old lady of setting the action a few decades later and putting an older actor in the role or doing prequels with a younger actor as the matter dissipates. The real question is, does anyone want to see a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie?

On the other hand, Mads Mikkelsen talked with The Sunny Times Mainly mentioned that he would have liked to speak with the actor before replacing him, but that he does not know him intimately enough to have done so:

I mean… obviously they were going to make the movie and obviously he wasn’t involved in it anymore. But I didn’t have a candle at that funeral. And I don’t know what happened in his private life and I have no idea if it was fair that he lost his job, but I just knew that the show had to go on and I would have liked to talk to him if I had the opportunity, but I don’t know him in that sense. But they spoke to me and they were obviously in a rush and I loved the script and said yes. And I know it was controversial for a lot of people, but that’s the way things play out from time to time. I didn’t want to copy what Johnny had done. I think he’s a great actor, so copying him would be creative suicide. I had to discover something that was definitely mine and that, nevertheless, was a bridge to what he had already done. What I do is different and it’s going to look a little different, but we’ll have to wait for the tape to come out next year to find out.
