First look at Snake Eyes offers samurai swords and a taste of GI Joe

Hollywood has taken a while to get back to making “Let’s Go Joe!”, But Paramount is finally bringing the franchise to the big screen with Snake Eyes: GI Joe Origins, which has received its first look in new images and a poster. . The film is a kind of prequel that tells the story of the popular character Snake Eyes, and the first teaser for the film will be released on Sunday.

In the images we can see for the first time Henry Golding, who replaces Ray Park, as the titular character Snake Eyes. However, we cannot see him with his iconic mask, but we almost always see him without the suit. It’s possible that, being a prequel, we won’t see the full Snake Eyes look until the end of the movie, or they’ll leave it as a surprise for the trailer. We also see Andrew Koji as Storm Shadow, Ursula Corbero as the Baroness, Samara Weaving as Scarlett, and Haruka Abe as Akiko. They do not appear in the photo, but they do appear in the film, Tahehiro Hira as Kenta and Iko Uwais as Hard Master.

Snake Eyes first look footage is also accompanied by a plot synopsis that delves into how Snake Eyes became the silent masked ninja we all know and love:

Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins stars Henry Golding as Snake Eyes, a tenacious loner who is taken in by an ancient Japanese clan called Arashikage after saving the life of his heir. Upon arriving in Japan, the Arashikage teach Snake Eyes the methods of the ninja warrior, while providing him with something he has been longing for: a home. But, when secrets from his past are revealed, Snake Eyes’ honor and loyalty will be put to the test, even if it means losing the trust of those closest to him.

The film seeks to revitalize the franchise, which has been dormant since 2013 despite GI Joe: Retaliation being a huge success. Paramount had trouble getting the third film, GI Joe: Ever Vigilant, out, and Snake Eyes became the priority. It is unclear when we will finally have the third film as it is still in production. Another spinoff movie is also in the works, featuring Joe’s obscure character Chuckles.

Snake Eyes: GI Joe Origins will be released on July 23 only in theaters.
