Walworth, Wis. – Following the record Kissimmee 2021 auction that reached $ 141 million in sales last January, Mecum Auctions will return to Central Florida July 28-31 for the Mecum Summer Special 2021 event, offering at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando. The event was originally planned to last just three days, July 29-31, but due to the overwhelming response from customers eager to participate, it was expanded to include Wednesday July 28 as well.
Among the featured lots consigned to date is a 1969 Dodge Daytona NASCAR (Lot S142) that was driven by country music legend Marty Robbins on the National 500 in Charlotte, North Carolina, in 1970. Rediscovered in 2005, the car had a grill. restoration completed by Ray Evernham’s Big Iron Garage before being unveiled to the public at the Aero Wars 50th Anniversary, presented by Tim Wellborn at Talladega Speedway.
A 1987 Porsche 930 Turbo Slantnose (lot S93), one of one, is also slated to join the special summer auction line. The car was custom built by Porsche’s Special Wishes program and includes a rare factory power kit. Powered by a 3.3L engine with a 4-speed transmission, the car sports a Guard Red exterior with a Champagne leather interior, including the dash.
Three Chevrolet Corvettes, a 1958 convertible (lot S163), a 1963 split-window coupe (lot S111.1), and a 2020 3LT convertible (lot S143) that is the last 2020 Corvette produced, serve as a good focused representation of the Diversity in age, design and technology to be offered among the expected 1,000-car lineup of the event.
