With a promoted campaign on the internet via Mexico, they are trying to get our Soda Stereo take a comfortable place in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
The initiative is carried out by a journalist and fan (in the order they prefer) named Miguel Galvez, Mexican he, who started a withering campaign exactly one year ago and already collected more than 10 thousand signatures who adhere to the cause and consider it just. The adhesions come -attenti- from 50 different countries.
With such antecedents and followers from here and there, what we are trying to account for is the importance, let’s say global, of the group led by Gustavo Cerati. Should the campaign succeed –Santi Maratea would do it in a minute-, the Sodas would become the first Spanish-speaking band en ingresar al Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame.
The Alberti-Cerati-Bosio trio left an indelible mark on many stages across the continent.
A rock story
The Fundación Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was created on April 20, 1983 by the American record company Ahmet Ertegun. The man was assisted by attorneys Suzan Evans and Allen Grubman, the magazine’s editor. Rolling Stone, Jann S. Wenner and music industry entrepreneurs Seymour Stein, Bob Krasnow and Noreen Woods.
Different locations were considered to establish the project headquarters and the museum: Memphis, Cleveland, Detroit, Cincinnati and New York. Ultimately the city of Cleveland was chosen, in part because it was in this city that the disc-jockey Alan Freed coined the term rock and roll in the early 1950s. The foundation began to include the first artists in 1986.
“I remember thinking at that time: ‘Soda has everything to be part of that museum; there is no single reason that prevents them from receiving that recognition‘”Said an interview with Los Angeles Times, Gálvez, 52, who has lived and worked in California for 20 years.
Apparently, it took a decade and a pandemic for the illusion to finally become motorized.
Soda Stereo was one of the Argentine bands that had the greatest projection towards the American continent.
Every year between six and 12 new members are added to the prestigious homage salon. The court is a supposedly select guild of 500 experts among journalists, producers, and other industry experts.
There are requirements to meet: the candidates must have their history in tow, such as 25 years from the publication of the first album. It is also measured, in addition to the influence of the band, the imprint and footprint it has left within the genre.
From Bulgaria to Singapore
According Los Angeles Times, “Eleven months later, the petition has so far added 14,572 accessions from a map of 58 countries, including Estonia, Norway, Bulgaria and Singapore“.
Among the signatories appear names such as Alex Lora (The Tri), Sergio Arau (ex Little bottle of Jerez), Jorge Fresquet (Krönös), the Venezuelan musician OneChot, the Chilean Francisco González (former drummer of Lucybell), Adrián Barilari (from Rata Blanca) and even the name of Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, head of the Buenos Aires government.

The first rockers to be included in the Hall of Fame, logically, were the pioneers: Elvis Presley, James Brown, Ray Charles, Fats Domino, Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard and Chuck Berry.
With a little push from your friends
Other known signers since the mission began, back in September 2020, are Carlos Alomar (former Soda Stereo producer), Fabián “Zorrito” Von Quintiero (the famous fifth Soda), Andrea Alvarez (chorus girl of the trio), Leo Garcia (musician related to the soloist Cerati) and Tweety González (Gustavo’s keyboard player) and Gorillaz bassist Seye Aelekan.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame recently inducted Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode, Whitney Houston, The Notorious B.I.G., T. Rex y The Doobie Brothers.
But beware, other names suggested in 2020 did not have a majority in the rock conference and Soundgarden, Kraftwerk, Motörhead O Judas Priest they must still bide their time.
