(CNN) — Four years after a series of troublesome arrests and exploding on Twitter, actress Amanda Bynes is ready to talk about what happened.
“I am very sorry and ashamed of the things I said,” Bynes told Paper Magazine.
I can’t go back in time, but I would if I could. And I am so sorry for whoever I hurt and whoever lied to them because this really eats away at me inside. It makes me feel so horrible, it makes me sick and it saddens me. Everything I worked for my whole life, it seems like I screwed up everything on Twitter. It’s definitely not Twitter’s fault, it’s my fault.
The former child star, who rose to fame in the 1990s on Nickelodeon’s “All That” and “The Amanda Show,” said she had been sober for four years and is currently enrolled at the Institute of Design. and Fashion Marketing.
In 2014, Bynes was sentenced to three years on probation, to complete an alcohol education course and to pay a reckless driving fine.
She continued to make headlines that year for a series of shocking tweets that included false accusations of abuse against her father.
“Everyone is different, obviously, but for me, mixing marijuana and other drugs, and sometimes drinking, really messed up my brain,” Bynes explained. “It made me a completely different person. I’m actually a good person. I would never feel or say or do any of the things that I did and said to the people I hurt on Twitter.
Byrnes said he hoped to launch a clothing line and return to acting eventually. He said he also hoped his experience would serve as a cautionary tale for others.
“Be very, very careful because you could lose everything and ruin your whole life like I did,” he said.
