After two consecutive editions postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Hellfest, the biggest European metal event, intends to make up for it, and rather twice than once, in 2022. For its fifteenth anniversary, the Clisson festival (Loire-Atlantique) will offer not one but two festivals. From June 17 to 19, the edition which was scheduled for summer 2020 and which was already full, should finally take place, then from June 23 to 26, a second meeting with an unprecedented program. That is to say seven days of concerts with more than 350 groups in total.
From June 17 to 19, for the first weekend, the poster remains almost unchanged with the exception of the cancellation of the groups System of a Down, Puscifer, Infectious Grooves and Incubus, replaced in particular by Avenged Sevenfold and Five Finger Death Punch. Still confirmed are Faith No More, Judas Priest, Deftones, Deep Purple, Korn, Megadeth, Dropkick Murphys, Airbourne, The Offspring, Social Distortion and Killing Joke.
The second weekend will be spread over four days, a virtually unprecedented configuration even if in 2019 Hellfest hosted the Slipknot “knotfest” on its site the day before the festival. With above all a different programming compared to the three previous days, with headlining Metallica (a first for Hellfest) which will close these seven days, and Guns N’Roses (for the first time in Clisson with the original members Axl Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan). Only Airbourne, Megadeth and Killing Joke will be present again this second weekend alongside Scorpions, Helloween, Rise Against, Nine Inch Nails (for a unique performance in Europe), Ministry, Alice Cooper, Bad Religion, Nightwish, Black Label Society, Avatar, Sabaton, Bring Me The Horizon or Mercyful Fate.
The suspense on this 2022 edition was maintained until the end. The day before the announcement, Wednesday June 16, Metallica announced its return to the Old Continent with seven dates in European festivals in the summer of 2022, including Rock Werchter (Belgium), NOS Alive (Portugal) and Firenze Rocks ( Italy), without a passage then being planned in France. Last week had also leaked on social networks a poster of Hellfest 2022, without the organizers confirming its authenticity.
Regarding tickets, the date of sale of the 4-day pass for the second weekend has been set for Wednesday July 7 at 1 p.m.: the price is set at € 289 and that of the 1-day pass at € 105 ( excluding rental fees). Pass holders for the 2020 edition will have privileged access – for twenty-four hours – to a presale which will be launched on Tuesday, July 6 at 1 p.m. The benefit is strictly limited to the purchase of a maximum of two passes per person.
