MEXICO CITY.- Ryan Murphy will make one more production for Netflix, now focused on a serial killer.

The prolific director will bring to the platform Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, a miniseries co-created with his collaborator Ian Brennan.

The production will focus on one of America’s most notable serial killers.

According to the Deadline portal, they will tell the story from the point of view of the victims and show the apathy and incompetence of the police, which allowed Dahmer to commit so many crimes.

Actor Richard Jenkins (The Shape of Water) will play Lionel, Dahmer’s father, a chemist who taught him how to safely whiten and preserve animal bones, a technique the young man later used on his victims.

So far they are looking for the actor who brings the murderer to life, as well as the actress who will play Glenda Cleveland, the neighbor who warned the police of Dahmer’s erratic behavior.

Murphy already brought to the screen the story of Andrew Cunanan, another serial killer and the one who killed designer Gianni Versace, in American Crime Story: The Murder of Gianni Versace.

Production is scheduled to begin in January with Carl Franklin (Mindhunter and The Leftovers) directing, and Jane Mock (Pose and Hollywood) serving as screenwriter and director.

The 10-episode miniseries will run between the 60s and early 90s, when the criminal, known as “The Milwaukee Cannibal” or “The Milwaukee Monster” was arrested.

Between 1978 and 1991, Dahmer murdered at least 17 men and boys, almost all of them African-American. His crimes included necrophilia, cannibalism, and the preservation of certain parts of the body.

The serial killer, who died at age 34 after a standoff in prison, has been portrayed on the big screen by Jeremy Renner, Carl Crew, Rusty Sneary and Ross Lynch.

Most of the adaptations focused on his bloodthirsty nature, Monster… is expected to address the privileges of the murderer, an attractive white man who many times managed to escape the police and judges for more than a decade.

The miniseries is Murphy’s most recent project for Netflix, after producing Hollywood, Halston, The Boys in the Band and The Prom, the latter soon to be released.

It’s also the latest collaboration between Murphy and Brennan, who created The Politician, Glee, and Scream Queens.
