The presentation of the book inspired by the filming of the cult film recorded in the Cusco town of Chinchero and written by the renowned Peruvian journalist Fietta Jarque, will be presented this Saturday, February 20 at 4:00 pm via Facebook Live Planeta de Libros Peru and it will feature the participation of ex-minister Salvador del Solar and the film critic Ricardo Bedoya.
As it is remembered, in 1970, 28 kilometers from Cusco was the Chinchero people, a beautiful territory, still untouched by the overwhelming machinery of mass tourism. That is how the young and troubled Dennis Hopper came to shoot what he envisioned as a masterpiece of the hippie counterculture: The Last Movie.
Although the expectation was maximum before the new film of the actor and director of Easy Rider, nothing went the way Hopper had anticipated. During filming hundreds of rumors about “sex, drugs and rock and roll” were spun, and all that took its toll. Critics did not understand the film and neither did its producers, who barely a week after its premiere vetoed its exhibition for more than forty years.
In the book Where Dennis Hopper lost the poncho, Jarque, reveals the whole story behind the unusual filming in our country, the scandals and everything that happened in the corridors and rooms of the Hotel de Turistas del Cusco, the excesses of stars such as Kris Kristofferson, Julie Adams, Stella García, Peter Fonda, Dean Stockwell, Toni Basil, Russ Tamblyn or Michelle Phillips, among others.
